You can’t go to Florida without visiting the Kennedy Space Center, where many of the NASA Space Shuttles take off. The Centre is no further than 15 miles from Daytona Beach, Miami and Orlando, so is easy to get to from most major holiday destinations. There is an excellent art scene in Florida, particularly in Miami and around the west coast of the state. The newly re-opened Salvador Dali Museum in St Petersburg, near Tampa, is a highlight. This has the most comprehensive collection of the surrealist painters works including 100 watercolours, 95 oil paintings among hundreds of sketches, sculptures and photos.  For those that want to see more than one type of art, head to the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota. This massive museum is the biggest in the state, with 21 galleries with work by American and European artists. This was the mansion of Ringling, of circus fame, and you can see a fascinating circus exhibition here too. There are some surprisingly impressive historic museums to be found all over the state. The Morikami Museum and Japanese Garden, is an excellent museum which is entirely devoted to the culture of Japan. For those that want to find out more about one of Florida’s most famous sons, visit the John Gorrie State Museum in Apalachicola. Here you can see one of the replicas of the fridge he created in 1851.  These museums can be found close to Tampa, so if you’re visiting Busch Gardens theme park, come to one of the fascinating museums in the area.
